Here is a selection of five of the best on offer in Australia not necessarily in order but definitely the most popular choices.

Toshiba

The Toshiba 26DV615Y 26" 66cm HD LCD DVD Combo not only has a high definition tuner but a DVD player built in which is a fantastic idea for those with space issues. Playback features for the DVD player include DVD, CD, JPG and MP3 giving plenty of options. Power consumption is low at 53 watts which means it is included in the MEPS rating at five stars. This is a reasonably priced unit considering the DVD player that comes with the package.

TEAC

If you are looking for a large screen LCD TV the TEAC LCD4265FHD 42″ 106CM 1080P TELEVISION is a big unit without a huge price tag. Because of its size the power consumption is high but still less than 180 watts. Digital audio output is optical with a PAL colour system. Resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels gives a clear picture.

Daewoo

If your needs are for a smaller television the Daewoo DLV22T1 22" 55cm LCD TV is perfect in a bedroom or kitchen as a second set. This is another reasonably priced set with 1680 x 1050 resolution and HD digital tuner.

LG

The 47LH50YD 47" 119cm Full HD 200HZ LCDTV from LG has it all. Spend some time searching the net forappliances online and you may be surprised at the bargains around for this top of the range from LG. The set has all you could wish for with full high definition tuner built in and a 1920 x 1080p resolution. There are four HDMI inputs with deep colour support and intelligent sensor. If you're looking to replicate that in theatre experience then look no further.

Palsonic

The Palsonic TFTV421FHD 42" 106cm HD LCD TV is a value for money widescreen with full HD resolution 1920 x 1080 and integrated HD digital tuner for watching the additional digital TV channels.

Three HDMI inputs providing a single connection for audio, video, set-top boxes and DVD player make this a great set without the big price of other brands for the size of the screen.

In case you were wondering what LCD stands for, according to Wikipedia liquid crystal display (LCD) is a thin, flat electronci visual display that uses the light modulating properties of liquid crystals (LCs). LCs do not emit light directly.

Television has come a long way from its humble beginnings. The original black and white set that amazed and astounded viewers around the world more than fifty years ago seems like a distant memory now.

Why my LG L226WTQ doesn't support 720p and 1080p?

I have an LG L226WTQ wide (native resolution of 1680x1050) hook in a Pioneer DV400V Dvd upconvert player via HDMI to DVI-D cable.
It plays on a Dvd native resolution of 480p but shows only black screen whenever I set it on 720p, 1080i and 1080p?
Any same cases? Most XBOX users can play with 1080p resolution, how can I achieve it?
Audio is hook on a TEAC AG15D Receiver via coaxial cable and doing fine.

The manual for the monitor makes no mention of support for video standards (e.g. HDTV input). This is a computer monitor only. You can play DVDs on an internal DVD drive and achieve HD resolution (at least 720p equivalent) by playing the DVD with a suitable DVD player software (e.g. Windows Media Player, Power DVD) while the screen resolution is set to 1680x1050).
