What are 5.1 Surround Speaker Systems?
A 5.1 Surround Speaker System is the common name for a six channel multiaudio producing sound system. One whole system consists of six consoles - 5 plus 1- thus the name. These sound systems are used very often by both commercial and personal uses. It is known as the standard type of sound producing systems, being used in theatres and cinemas for sound production to a mass audience. Its usage comprises of five full bandwidth channels together with one low frequency channel.
Since 5.1 sound systems are popular demand, several companies and brand names produce these systems. Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II, DTS, and SDDS are all 5.1 systems. 5.1 Surround Speaker Systems are also the standard surround sound audio component of digital broadcast and music, used even in radio stations.
All kinds of 5.1 Surround Speaker Systems use the same speaker channels and configuration, having a front left and right, one center channel, and two surround channels. Speaker placement is defined by ITU-R BS 775-1, with the center channel speaker being placed at zero degrees, the left and right channels being placed at ?30 degrees, and the surrounds being placed at ?110 degrees.
What to Look for in 5.1 Surround Speaker Systems
Want to own one of these such powerful sound systems? Not sure how to look out for a good one? Fret not, because I will be introducing an affordable sound system you can use right in your home for recreational purposes.
The Aperion Intumus 5B Harmony SD is known for its ultimate design, done by its company - Aperion Audio. This company has been around for nearly a decade and has been producing quality sound systems ever since. This 5.1 Surround Speaker System product of theirs boasts a remote-controlled subwoofer with adjustable equalization as well. This creates a simple accessbility to managing the layout of your speakers, from the comfort of a remote control while laying still on your couch.
Also, the beautiful designed aforementioned does not just come in the quality of cosmetics.
The six-piece Intimus 5B Harmony SD speaker system comes with four Intimus 5B bookshelf satellites, one Intimus 5C center speaker, and the Bravus 8D subwoofer. The satellite speakers are a foot tall and the center speaker is 19.3 inches wide. The 5B satellites' rear ports, however, limits its ability to project sound to its maximum quality, due to the effect of wall mounting. The 5C center speaker, in contrast, maintains its sound quality because it is not on wall-mount position. Besides the placements, the rock-solid feel and weight of the cabinets is extremely impressive.
Installation
So, lets just assume you have got your 5.1 Surround Speaker Systems already. Now you are eager to get your hands on it to start using it. But... you are clueless on how to connect them to your television set or your computer. No worries, because I will be listing step by step instruction on how to use them.

First of all, connect the cable from the back of each speaker to the respective audio output jack on the back of the subwoofer. For example, the center speaker connects to the center-channel audio output. Connect all five speakers: left front, center, right front, left rear and right rear.
Done with that?

Now you should continue by connecting the subwoofer cable's mini-plug to the 3.5mm jack on the Y-adapter.

After that, insert the white (left) and red (right) plugs on one end of the RCA stereo cable into the respective jacks on the Y-adapter.

Nearing the end... now insert the white and red plugs on the other end of the cable into the matching audio output jacks on the TV. You should be able to identify the correct audio output jacks by looking at the colours.

And finally, plug in the electrical cords for the subwoofer and TV. Then, of course, turn on your tv and start experiencing awesome surround right in the comfort of your home!

How much do you think this custom center speaker is?
My RICH uncle just gave me a big bass and center speaker that he had custom made. It's from Energy, has a plaque of like the design team on the back, and just looks really fancy. I want to sell the center speaker, but I want to know what they are worth. I don't know how much he paid, but I know they weren't cheap. Also, is there a way to upload a picture of it on here?
Can't tell you anything. You only name the brand of the manufacturer. What model is it? Energy is a very good brand of speaker, I do use the Energy speakers for my family room and also have an 18" subwoofer that I purchased in the early 2000. You might try going online to the manufacturer's website and see if you can find a match.
