HDMI Extender: Transmit HDMI Video Signal over long distance with high resolutions
HDMI extender stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface extender. It is a hardware device that allows you to extend HDMI video signals long distances via inexpensive Cat5e / Cat6 UTP cables. These extenders were introduced to overcome the limitations of HDMI cables. They are light in weight and eliminate the need of traditional bulky cables. Even though video signals are extended over long distances, these units still deliver crisp and clear high resolution images. Available in different types, these extension devices are commonly used in call centers, airports and restaurants as well as military and commercial environments.
Another type of HDMI extension device, the HDMI fiber optic extender is a hardware device used to transmit HDTV (High definition television) digital video signals distances up to 330 ft via fiber optic cables. This extender supports resolutions up to 1920x1200 and HDTV resolution up to 1080p. These extender devices are resistant to RFI (Radio Frequency Interface) and EMI (Electromagnetic Interface). They allow the transmission of signals without any video loss or degradation. Some extender units also have the ability to switch to power save mode when the source device is powered off. Extensively used in digital signage applications in a variety of industries such as medical, airport, they can be used with Plasma TV's, Digital Projectors, LCD Monitors and HDTVs.
HDMI extenders are very compact in size and require no special settings. These units also support simple plug and play functionality. Since these units use inexpensive Cat5e / Cat6 cables to achieve long distance transmission, they can be used instead of HDMI cables. These extenders support HDMI or DVI inputs and are HDCP compliant. The extender consists of two units, a local transmitter unit and a remote receiver unit. The local transmitter is placed next to the HDMI source and the remote receiver is placed next to the remote LCD monitor.

Can Turtle Beach P21 headset be used while using HDMI for Video and the USB for audio and Mic?
I was thinking of getting a Turtle beach Headset. But the thing is I use a HDMI Cable for Video output. So will I be able to use the headset while my HDMI Cable is plugged into the TV for Video at the same time?
The P21 connects to the PS3 with USB for the mic and with RCA red/white plugs for the game sound. The PS3 has RCA audio output jacks for stereo game sound, which are connected to the P21 RCA plugs. These can be connected at the same time as the HDMI video connection to your TV. The RCA jacks from the PS3 connect to the P21 and the HDMI connects to your TV for audio and video. Also, some HD TVs have audio RCA output jacks (red/white) which can be used instead of the RCA jacks from the PS3. So, either way, you can use HDMI, stereo game sound and USB audio for the mic on the P21.
